does anyone know if the FZ1 Swingarm/rear shock combo has been done to our FJ's?

The FZ1 swing arm has been installed a few times here. I don't know of anyone that has used the FZ1 rear shock. I used a Penske shock that used the same shock ends as the stock shock had. I just had to modify the swing arm slightly to fit the fj frame and offset the rear suspension dog bones to line up with the shock.
Feel free to pm me if you would like any additional info...

Pat, I do still love the bike and am happy to take care of it. It will never be a show bike, its a rider that's still in good shape for her age. I don't think its ever looked better than it did down In Tellico plains, Hard to believe after dragging it through the rain the night before I woke to find it shiny as a brand new penny. Damn nice of the fellow that took care of that for me...

Very nice, did you use the FZ1 shock as well?

racerman_27410

no the FZ1 shock was way too long.

FZ1 shock 01-05 is the same length as the stock FJ shock. You will need to mod the top shock mount and the lower mount is to wide on the FJ linkage. FJ shock bottom is 27mm. FZ1 shock is 20mm. The spring is too light. You can switch to the stock FJ spring they are interchangeable. I used one on my 93 for several months with the stock FJ swingarm. Then upgraded to the shock from R6. Hope this helps.

Kurt that is good info, thanks for the reply. for $150 I get a swingarm with chain guard, rear axle and spacers, shock and complete linkage from an 02 FZ1. ill have to sort out the upper shock mount it sounds like but that should be childs play.

My 90 has the 02 FZ1 swingarm as well. I installed a Penske shock. The stock linkage will work, although the FJ linkage is wider than the pick up point on the swingarm of the FZ1. I had the FJ linkage milled down to line up perfectly with the FZ1 swingarm. Then stock FZ1 bearings and races can be used. ( in the FJ linkage ). I have been told that the FZ1 caliper must be used as it is somehow different than a regular blue dot? I cannot confirm this . Mine came as a complete swingarm wheel caliper rotor etc. It is a great mod. Sounds like a good deal. Also I added an offset sprocket and an XJR sprocket cover with the XJR clutch pushrod and shift shaft. Randy can get you these parts. Enjoy!!!

Not everyone understands what a completely rational process this maintenance of a motorcycle is. They think it's some kind of a knack or some kind of affinity for machines in operation. They are right, but the knack is almost purely a process of reason.
