Newer 84 fuel petcock differences over original

Does anyone know why the original 1984 fuel petcock OEM part number 36Y-24500-00-00 was superseded by part number 36Y-24500-01-00?  Was it a redesign due to the potential fire hazard if the pressed in fitting possibly worked it's way loose.  Or was it just a matter of a limited supply of the original part, where a newer part would fit and perform just as well?  I was also wondering which part number RPM stocked?

The change in the suffix after the part number is usually a change of manufactures that supply Yamaha.

If it is the end number suffix after the base number it is due to a design change. If it is the suffix before the base part number, in this case 24500, that is usually year/model change.

Since only the new suffix is the only one available that is what I stock. I do safety wire all of the petcocks I sell before sending them out the door to prevent the elbow from falling out.
