Hello all,

A buddy of mine just purchased a 2000 Honda CBR900RR. He had been riding it around town for a few weeks with no troubles...then... one day the battery had lost its charge. The battery would not hold a charge so i told him to get a new one. He orders a new battery and just couldnt wait to ride it. So he push starts the bike with the dead battery still installed. was riding it around town and the bike stalls and will not start again...... He put the battery in today still no start... I found a blown fuse under the seat which blows as soon as the ignition switch is turned on... fuel pump does not come on either.. Now im not necessarily expecting you guys to tell me whats wrong with it just want to pick your brains..... Riding with a dead battery has got to overload the charging system i understand that, but what damage does one risk by doing so? also i unplugged the fuel pump the fuse still blew.. i unplugged a 3 wire connector under the seat that may or may not be a voltage regulator or rectifier and the fuse doesnt blow but the bike still wont start..

Hondas do have a reputation for blowing rectifiers and regulators.
Riding with a dead battery shouldn't damage anything.
Sounds like a major short blowing the fuse.
Try looking at the starter relay or starter motor itself.

Does sound like there's a dead short someplace, so just start tracing things out with a meter and figure out where it is.

Honda r/r's are one of the problems that many of their bikes share.  Sorta makes me think that it's internally shorted out.

IME with Honda r/r's, they usually open up, not short out.   :pardon:

Whatever is shorted is back from that 3 wire connector you unplugged... trace back from there.
