Ok so if I was going to get new brake lines and was going to get rid of the ABS what does that entail? Is there a full write up on this subject? how to? What I need? Do I have to pull the ABS system or can I just leave it there? Does the ABS have to be taken off the wheels? I've seen a couple of topics here but not a full section on this. is it a easy switch over at minimal cost? Thanks

Scott, our own Capt'n Ron rebuilt his FJ including all new brake lines for his ABS system. When he returns from MOAB and back to the grid he might have some insight for you.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Have just done this very thing myself.

There is no write up as such and I really just followed my nose.  I started by replacing original brake lines for stainless and just ran it straight from the MC to the calipers.  I traced the rigid lines and removed them too.  The abs pump is a bit buried but withr the rear wheel arch liner removed its easy.  Even easier if you the battery housing too.  The computer is buried right up in the tail section and I removed that when I fitted an LED taillight unit.

It sounds harder than it actually is.  Don't worry about the loom for it all other than to disconnect it which will disable the abs warning light that will stay on and drive you nuts. There is a thread on here that I posted ages ago, there a few pictures there. I can't find it but if u use the search function in sure you will come across it.

I'm told I'm cynical, pessimistic and generally miserable. I say that I'm realistic! The fact that reality sucks is not my fault!

Nurse when you ordered brake lines what did you order? Did you order a set for a 92 with no ABS? How did you do the rear? Thanks. Just want to make sure I get everything I need.

I would think you simply order a non-ABS FJ rear brake line.  There shouldn't be anything ABS-specific about the rear master cylinder.  The brake line runs directly from the m/c to the rear caliper.

And for the front blue dots do the same? Non ABS lines for a FJ?

As mentioned in the other brake post, I would get them with straight banjos fittings at the caliper end.
Unfortunately, I don't think Speigler knows which end is the caliper end.  I tried a few times (thru email) to see if they could build me front lines using the "standard" FJ lines as a length guide.

All I could get out of them was: "We build the lines to OEM specs."
Which I translated in my mind as: "We don't really know shit about the specifics of our product, and it would be too hard to give you what you're asking for."

I'm using an ancient set of Russell lines and did the flip sides and ends trick that others have done.  But I would like to clean up the routing with straight ends at the blue dot end.

One of these days, I'm going to get Project FJ down to Gasoline Alley and have Earl's make up a set for it.

After the job they did on the XT3fiddy, I'll go back there every time.  Fast, high quality, and cheap.

The only issue I had removing my ABS was that the ABS light staying on. I removed the bulb.
And removing the ABS control module in the tail section gave me a bit more room for an expanded emergency tool kit.

Removing the fuse also turns the light off.
