Anyone able to tell me definitely that that was NOT a factory paint option?

Not everyone understands what a completely rational process this maintenance of a motorcycle is. They think it's some kind of a knack or some kind of affinity for machines in operation. They are right, but the knack is almost purely a process of reason.

Hola
It is a factory paint option, but in Japan and taken from the 1200 3cv Model

This bike has parts from an 84/85 and an 86/87+. The mirrors are bar mounted, the lower fairing looks like 86/87. The upper faring is 84/85, no AD on the forks. Turn signals are 84/85. The pipe is angled too high might be a 4:1 set up.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I found this on a Russian website

Looks the same but with the black/white reversed.

On the subject of paint schemes I wonder why my UK spec '91 has a slightly different scheme than US '91s. The "bottom" colour is blue/grey rather than white and thus goes against the usual FJ pattern of the "top" and "bottom" colours being the same.

My Japanese Domestic '91 was the same as this also.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.

Damn good question, mate.
I have wondered that, as well.

mzrider: 1983?

Also the picture is kind of low quality; could it just be the normal blue one?

Yes, I think this is just a poor photo of a blue/red/white '85 1100.
