I got rear ended this morning and was pushed into the car in front of me. i'm fine, never left my feet.   :good:  front fairing got pretty cracked up, I don't know if I can fix it.(1987 fj1200).  what years will be a direct replacement and how much should I expect to spend? also, anywhere special I should be looking?

Thanks,
Larry

86 and 87 are direct bolt on, other years can be made to fit with enough engineering effort. if you look overseas you can get fiberglass replacements. Consider plastic welding, there are some really good shops and it will cost less than replacing it. Here is an example http://sportbikeplasticsrepairs.com/ I am not affiliated or connected, just the first Google hit that fits the need. This was an interesting find as well, not too far from me if I need repairs.... Cycle Depot Los Angeles Motorcycle Repair,Motorcycle repair,Motorcycle Sales, powersports and Repair
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

If you need to replace the fairing, finding an 87' in good shape is rare. 86' fairings are more common and easier to find. The paint pattern is opposite of your 87'. If considering a replacement, here is a link for a fiberglass fairing that comes un-painted.

cool, thanks guys!   :good2:
when I get home i'll know more about what exactly what i'll need.
I was thinking about plastic welding, but we'll see how much I get from the guys insurance
on which route i'll take.  hopefully that's the most damage.  I was able to drive it home and didn't
notice anything wobbling and such.

Sorry to hear about the bike but very happy you are ok. Could have been a very bad day.

That just sucks.  Seems there's a rash of these recently.

If you were hit hard enough to push you into the car in front of you -and do damage, then I'd be surprised if there was no damage to the rear of the bike.

If I were you, I'd be checking the wheel/ swing arm/ sub frame closely for damage.

Just a thought.

Live hardy, or go home.

looking at it quickly at the scene, I didn't see any damage to tire and rim. (he hit me in the rear tire)
i'll know more when I tear into it.

thanks for suggesting stuff to look for

I have got an 87 fairing but there is some damage on the right side (if memory serves me well) under the scoop area. It can be repaired. I can send some pics over the weekend if you are interested.
