Greased the front motor mount collars and wow!

After reading about how greasing the collars on the newer FJs reduces vibration, I gave it a try.  Got the bolt, washers, nuts, and pipe as per this page:
http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=594.0

The left one was tight all the way but came out without too much trouble.  Had a couple of rusty areas on it, held it in the vice and sanded it clean, put some wheel bearing grease on it and it slipped back in.
The right side was really stuck. So bad that the nut ruined the threads on the Grade 5 bolt and didn't budge the collar, had to go get a Grade 8 bolt and nuts. The Grade 5 bolt was 6 inches long and threaded all the way to the head, but the Grade 8 bolt is only threaded about 1 1/2 inches down, so I got a 5 inch Grade 8 bolt (or 5 1/2, I can't remember now) and some more thick washers. (And a new Grade 5 bolt.)  Applied some WD40 and some heat, and the Grade 8 bolt got it moving. Once I ran out of threads, put a Grade 5 bolt in and finished pulling it out.  The instructions said to get a 2" long 1" diameter pipe, but I wish I had gotten a 2 1/2" long pipe because it wasn't  quite long enough to get the collar all the way out without using a water pump pliers.

After I got it all back together (including the missing spacer incident,  ) went for a ride and the vibrations in the low RPM range are less, but once it hits 3000 rpms and above: SMOOOOOOOTH.  Wow.  :good2:  Night and day difference.

Once you grease the collars it's amazing how easily they slide in compared to how tough they were to pull out, so I can see how it helps reduce vibrations.
If you have an FJ with this type of motor mounts and have never greased them, you should do it. It doesn't take that long... if you remember to put the spacer back on the long bolt between the mounts...

No argument from me; it's a must do bit of maintenance.
