Hey there,
I'm inspired to restore the looks of my 19085 FJ110 in addition to the mechanical performance. My FJ has paint damage on the black portion of the faring. Any ideas about restoring the vividness of the black parts?

Thanks,
Eyal

Winddancer has a new product at this place of employment that he used on his bike and the plastics look new.

He was unsure of the brand name and is supposed to get it to me.

I will try and follow-up with him.

The black plastic inner faring panels and gauge surround should be raw uncoated ABS plastic.
If they are not bleached from spilled brake fluid, they should polish up nicely with Simichrome polish.

Did you expect a different from me??......well did ya?  :sarcastic:

I get an excellent result using auto paint products-cutters, polishes and waxes.

If they get bad and faded some paint thinner to clean them off and get the pieces kind of dry and then go back with WD-40 and boom color and shine is back. Its a common fix for older cars with the black plastic crap on there bumpers and things. You can google that trick though works well and uses products you more than likely already have.

I use Turtle Wax Black Chrome plastic restorer. Works a treat on all black plastic components, especially the mirror backs. Does take a few applications to really embed into the plastic.

That heat gun method does look interesting. Might try it on the Navara.

Try sanding down in increments of fine grit sandpaper. When oxidation is gone and smothness is achieved spray with a plastic bonding clear coat. Can be bought at local Walmart. Just make certain it is "plastic bonding" Did this to an entire 86 Honda Xr600r and results were astounding, looks new!

well this is going to sound wrong but i use petroleum jelly or Vaseline as its commonly known just brush it on leave it over night and the clean it off.
Ot works because abs plastic and most plastics are slightly porous and absorb the petroleum which most plastics are made of this then re enlivens the plastic and the colour comes back

hope thats helpful
