Anyone ever shortened a Vance and Hines?

When I shorten the rear of the bike a little prob around 3-4 inches I started to think that the Vance and Hines will be sticking out alot. I love this exhaust setup and it sounds great but I don't want it to look strange when the bike is done. Has anyone ever taken one apart or cut one down to shorten one? I would like to take maybe like 2-3 inches out of it. Any ideas or should I just buy a slip on and leave this exhaust alone?

Never shortened a h&h , but have modded a couple of carbon pipes, if yours has a riveted on end cap, remove the rivets, remore end cap, shorten outer pipe to desired length, cut inner pipe to suit , to short and it may end up rattling around  :scratch_one-s_head:, re'fit end cap and fit new rivets
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Which V&H?  The SS I think is a straight-through like most pipes.  The SS2R should be okay to cut down unless you get into the ridiculously short range.

Shortened mine by about 4 1/2". Easy job. I don't like the look of long cans so decided to give it the chop treatment. Sounds great. Probably 10-20% louder than original. Drilled out the rivets holding the V&H label on and re-centered it. I'll post a pic if your interested. Pete.

The pics don't show up for some reason but I would love to see it. Yeah it has the rivited end cap but I am pretty sure that my exaust is all one piece which will prob make this project a lot harder.

Oh yeah thats sweet. I may not cut out quite that much but it is definatly to large the way it is. How much of a challenge was the packing and cutting out the tube inside the muffler?

Piece of cake! The core comes right out with the tail piece. Dennis Kirk has the packing kit for about $13. You should be able to cut the packing to the length of the shortened core with scissors. They even have replacement V&H badges if yours is rough looking.
