So i fixed my leaky petcock and while i had it apart i decided to shim needles and put in bigger mains, the previous owner had 118 dj in there which was smaller then mikuni 112.5. I had a spare carb bank lying around with 112.5 in them so i changed them over, will prob go to 115 later on.

Wow what a difference no flat spot at 4000rpm and smooth all the way to the red, even managed to brake the rear tyre loose whilst hitting around 6000 rpm which was a bit surprising.

According to this chart, The jets you put in are pretty much stock.

All US, 1984 through 1987 UK 112.5
1988 and later UK 110

Yeah the mains are, but the point was that the P.O had smaller ones in there and i now i have shimmed needles to 3.5 and pilot jet has always been 40. The change has definitely been felt, sounds better and goes better lovin it.  I reckon it needs a 115 main but this will do for now as everything i did cost me nothing.

I'm sure I need bigger jets. I have uni-pods and mod. exhaust. I'll get some 115 too. I might need 117.5. Good that your bike is running better. :good2:

Yeah at the moment for my 84 1100 stock engine internals with 4-1 exhaust and pods ive got 40 pilot with 3.5 turns out on screws, needles at 3.5 notches and 112.5 mains and this thing is running sweet. Im sure i can get more out of it but it will only be minor from now on.

Those carbs have to be super clean and i also run a inline filter, but even with that i still get crap in the float bowl down the bottom after about 1500km, which i just cleaned out. Its not much but still better to be clean.
