Have been through the files section and trawled through the colour codes can't find any indication of what the black on the engine components is.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Is it then lacquered or left as is?

Thanks
A life has been well lived, if you have planted trees under who's shade you do not expect to sit.

I know there is black and there is black but I've never heard of anyone actually worrying about which one for the motor.

Most here have just used engine enamel. It is unaffected by fuel, oil and degreasers, dries shiny and hard and takes about 10 mins to apply plus as long as you want to take masking.

This is mine when it had about 20,000 km's on it after a quick flick of paint. It STILL looks that good at about 50,000 km's now.

That looks sweet!

Quick 'sit rep'. I removed my alternator cover to clean up some corrosion caused by a clutch slave leak and polish the cover. To get rid of all corrosion I had to strip the paint. So a little led to a lot, which led in turn to polishing the whole thing!!

Took it to a body shop to find out about something else and they mentioned the Poor reliability of lacquer taking to bare metal.  He reckons on ally it will be ok for a good few years but on steel it will only be a couple of years, less if ridden in winter!  TBH I was just gonna use a rattle can!
The body shop guy suggests going 'back to black' hence trying to match it.
I'm not doing the motor I was really only trying to deal with corrosion on the ally covers and rear sets, one thing has just led to another!

Same deal, black engine enamel. You will never pick the difference, if any, once refitted and it NEEDS to be engine enamel or it won't last.

BTW I've used lots of engine enamels and found the premium brands don't seem to offer any better performance than the cheapies.
