Is ABS cement pretty much ABS in some solvent?

It sure looks like it when it hardens.

I decided to practice my gluing skills on the inner panel that exploded into pieces and I think I did pretty good - it feels very solid. One piece was missing, so I covered that spot in foil and poured some ABS cement in there, and now I have it filled in. I let the first thin film dry and I've been gradually adding to it. A couple more times and I will have the whole thickness filled, so I can sand it down level and it would be whole again.

That's nifty.

I seem to recall using ABS grindings or small chunks with the glue to fill in larger areas. The glue has solvent so it shrinks when it dries. The filler reduces this effect. Not sure about strength.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.
