Your Cougar is cool, don't see many of those anymore. Lots of Mustangs, few Cougars.

Re: No start.  Check and adjust your valve clearances while the motor is cold.
Looks like you are working on the carbs. Get them clean, clean, clean. Check the choke functions.
With the tank off, hook up a auxiliary fuel tank to feed the carbs. That way you can access the carbs as you fine tune. Get her running and sync. the carbs.

Don't idle the engine too long or you will cook your exhaust valves. Air cooled engines need air flow.

When you put the tank back on, if you then have problems starting, you can bet that it is the vacuum petcock. Check that your vacuum line is good and tight at both ends. Do the suck test on the petcock. If it doesn't stay open or doesn't  hold a vacuum, consider replacing it. Those poor critters live in a hot environment and after 29 years it would be good to replace it.

Cheers lad, stay with it.  Pat

Got to wait on the carb bowl gaskets so I guess I am in limbo until I see a fedex or UPS truck with parts from RPM lol.

Love the twin lights on your fj, wouldn't mind going that way with effie one day, with matching fairing, , ,great looking couger
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Thanks, I think its giving a little more modern look but I do want to built some type of fairing or somthing for the front to fill in some of the empty space. I havent figured out where to mount to hide the horn either lol. I think I will cut the rear tail fairing down some to make the bike look a little more modern as well but I do love the look of these FJs. I would love to find the lower air dam but cant find any.
