matching numbers?

hi again, i know with some jap bikes its almost rare to have matching numbers and i know on some classic jap bikes it can add a slight premium to its price, im just wondering if its fairly common with the fj to have the frame and engine numbers match, thanks again, ken

When I worked at a dealership Yamaha/Honda and more, matching numbers was the norm. Bikes from the 60's on.

Unless the engine has been changed, or the frame has changed, the numbers should match.

well there you go, its not what i thought,you learn something new everyday,  i tried to buy a matching numbers CB750 from the early 70's and i didn't find 1 with matching numbers at the time, i was led to believe they pulled a motor out of the line every now and then and did a destruction test on it thus the rarity of some bikes with matching numbers, my old c72 is close being only 4 difference, my rd350 was close as well being 6 off, i knew triumphs all match as they match the engine to the frame ,that's why the numbers aren't always straight as its done by hand,  but my fj has matching numbers,

Odd. At least on Yamaha bikes going back to 1980, engine and frame are made to match. They will not match only if a transplant is done or if there was a factory mistake.
