I don't want to know how or why it works. I want to know in what position is the reserve disabled? RES or ON. I read through 10 pages and never saw a clear answer. Thanks and may this thread rest in peace. Sorry I had to start a new thread to get this info. Y'all had enough of the other one and wouldn't read my post. :flag_of_truce:

"ON" should be labeled "Main"...That's the mode with no reserve function.  When it sputters for whatever reason it sputters...You then switch it to "RES" to get the extra mileage out of whatever fuel is remaining.  Hope that is helpful...

On my '86 when the switch was rocked down (depressed) to the ON position it was on. Rocked the other way (depressed) it was RES.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.
