One year ago today, On April 14, 2012, I lost the greatest man I have ever met, He was the man I called "DAD", He was not my father, He was my dad, A man by the name of Joseph Grzymski met a woman, divorced with 4 kids, 12, 10, 6, and 4 (me), asked her to marry him and after the marriage, He would work two jobs to make sure the mother of 4 would have what they needed, Making sure that the 2 girls would always have dolls to play with and the 2 boys would have toy soldiers and other thing young boys like to play with, A man who never treated them as they where someone else's children, but a man who loved them as his own, a giant of a man,  not only because his height was of 6' 6", but a giant of a man because of the heart that was beating in his chest, I know my dad is not a one of a kind, but he was the one of a kind to my family and I, Today my family and I are headed to the cemetery where my dad was laid to rest to pay our respects to a great American man, He served in the Army, when He was Honorably discharged as a sergeant and recipient of the CMH. Dad, I love you and miss you, Forever your son, Shawn

Thank you Joseph Grzymski for your service to our country and to your family.  In my case the man was named Edward Eugene Burkeen... his story was captured pretty accurately by "Grapes of Wrath" and he adopted me at birth, treating me as his own and teaching me the ropes of living an honorable life.  He left us 13 years ago in October and I've thought of him every day since, using some of his wisdom to inform most every decision I make.

He was a farm boy that joined the Navy to escape the great depression, moved to the Air Force after his first tour, served in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, retired in 1972 and began another 30 year career ending with a 15 year stint driving an 18 wheeler for a sod company.  At about 65 years old he went off the sod trailer and landed on his head...  got up, wiped off the blood, finished the delivery, then went to get his stitches.  Tough bastard that was capable of the kind of love you felt Shawn and I was lucky to have him.

Thanks for everything Dad...
There's plenty of time for sleep in the grave...

Thanks for that touching tribute, Shawn. I was just telling my wife about a recent thread on this site regarding oil and how this site is more than just FJs. Then I logged on and read your post to her. She started crying, which is understandable as we lost her Dad in January. Our thoughts go out to you and your family at this difficult time. I know we will have some tough days ahead - birthdays, Father's Day and holidays. Will miss my father in-law.
