Took my new fork brace for a quick run this morning, I must admit I didn't realise what a difference it would make. I found initially I was dropping into corners quicker and deeper than usual and once that was taken into account I suspect I was picking up 10 to 20 kph through most corners. The whole front end feels more planted and sure footed, really noticed it through a mixture of tight turns down hill allowing me accelerate harder as they turned to soft sleepers.

Beautiful day, no clouds and plenty of sun, unfortunately as well as many many bikes there were as many cars, which made things a bit frustrating, but all in all a nice couple of hours.

Great post, fork brace really stiffens up the front on the FJ. Looks like a great place to ride. Good pictures thank you.

Hiya Springy Pal, pete m here from the other forum. I've just picked up one of Randys' braces plus an oil cooler too. Looks like a great place to ride over there!

:good2: sure is Pete, you will love the Fork Brace.

I have one of hackers oil coolers and don't like it, so one of Randy's is on my list, (just waiting to be signed off by the financial controller who is currently examining my detailed buisness case  :rofl2:)  be good to get your feed back.

Why don't you like it?  Does it leak, stick out too far on the sides, not help cooling, get clogged?
What will Randy's cooler do better?  (not knocking Randy or his products)

Arnie,

it's more an emotional thing than a practical thing but my main attraction is that Randy's is a bigger unit with more surface area, I am still a tad concerned that Randy's has a thermostat which could be a silent point of failure.

I am in the process of installing an oil temp gauge to get a very rough guide as to what's happening, after doing that I will either loose interest or get one of Randy's coolers just to because I can.

Having said all this the bike runs ultra-smooth doesn't show any signs of overheating even on hots days of high 30's.

As I said I often do things because I can rather than because I need to.

Dave,

Hopefully you can ease your mind and I am not trying to highjack the thread, just addressing the concern posted here.

The "thermostat" function of the cooler has no parts to fail. The internal plumbing of the cooler allows the colder oil to only flow through a small portion of the cooler while the viscosity of the oil will not allow easy passing of the oil through the majority of the cooler.

It is about "path of least resistance" due to viscosity. If you look at photo four of the oil cooler on my website you can see where the oil can pass straight through and not have to spiral through. I have been using these coolers for over 15 years and I have never had any type of failure.

If you have any other questions please let me know via PM, email or via taking the question one of the many RPM oil cooler thread already running on the forum.

Good morning,

I installed an oil cooler from R.P.M. many tens of thousands of miles ago.

At that time I also installed an oil temperature gauge and an oil pressure gauge.

I have never seen high oil temperatures even when running triple digit speeds in triple digit ambient temperatures. Nor when pushing hard in canyon type of road riding in hot weather.

Until the rider is uncomfortably cold because of the weather, the oil temperature will maintain 180*, which I feel is a principle reason my particular FJ has attained such high mileage.

Also, there has never been even a hint of oil seepage from the cooler or the fittings themselves. The mounting brackets, fittings, hoses & the cooler itself are unaffected by vibration. Every part is top shelf & long lasting.

Ride safe,

Mike Ramos.

Randy, many thanks for your explanation that helps, you always respond to my emails, infact last weekend you responded so quickly I wondered if you ever sleep

Mike your feed back is excellent and gives me comfort.

One thing I never even think about is the quality of randy's products always top stuff  :good2:

Thanks for the feedback Mike, that's most re-assuring! Randys' cooler swayed it for me over one of Phil Hackers simply because it is bigger, has a thermostat, was cheaper and the braided hoses bolt onto the sump. I don't have to saw the old copper nickel pipes down and fit hoses over them.

My gear arrived today Randy. Nice-one!

I hate to bring the thread back to it's original subject, but I installed my fork brace this weekend and drove it today.  What a difference!  I immediately noticed the noise difference, and just like FJSpringy said, I was dipping into turns deeper and faster.  Hat's off to RPM :hi:  Thanks Randy!!!

Thanks for bringing the topic back to the original subject and thank you for the report back on the fork brace.

Be sure to send me a product rating on the website from the email you recieved and I will put it in the product description for all other to see and compare.

Thanks again, Randy
