Side Scoop Replacement

Picked up a set of side scoops from Shawn back in December.  Really decent shape.  Especially since I bought some a year or two back from a nameless seller that were advertised to be in good shape but were crap.

Anyway, finally got around to putting them on the bike.  Granted, my get-off was only about 5 1/2 or 6 years ago.  I thought the right side fairing bolt that is under the scoop was melted into the frame. Happily discovered it was melted just short of the frame, and I could unscrew it with some vice grips.  Picked up a new screw at the hardware store.  Had to use a nylon bushing and a washer to replace the melted collared washer. Guess I'll get one from Yamama next time I do an OEM parts order.

When removing the left side mount screw (to use to buy a new one for the right side), found that the left scoop tip was broken and fell apart.  So, while I bought the scoops from Shawn thinking I only wanted the right one, and Shawn graciously threw in the left at no extra cost, I ended using them both.

So here is a pic of the whooped right scoop, and an attempt of a close up of the melted mounting screw.  Should have used a real camera, but I was just too damn lazy to go get it.  The big hole is where the screw goes.

Ha! I got that tin from my uncle.  I keep screw gun bits in it.  He gave me a lot of stuff before he passed away. He was old school, kept almost everything, smoked and enjoyed his whiskey.  He saved the V-mail my Dad sent him during the war and gave them all to me.  Amazing.

He was very cool.  I have a picture of him on an old Indian in Philly dated Jan. 1953.  Also have a pic of him on a Cushman.  He was a pilot, too, and took me up when I was young and spurred my interest in aviation.  And he drove a dump truck.  What more could a nephew ask for?
