I just ordered a 180 55 17 Michelin Pilot Road 3 from  http://www.leatherup.com/  Full price was around 170.00.  Price after discount was 153.00 by using Promo code "PRESD". I don't know how much longer there promo code will be in effect but as of today (Feb 14) it was still good. Full price was around 170.00.
Not that 10% is all that great but it all adds up. :)

Perhaps I didn't do quite as well. Got my PR3s from motorcycle superstore:
120/70ZR-17 was 143.99
170/60ZR-17 was 170.99

Free shipping, they arrived super quick, they smell lovely and look like there going to be useful, so all up I'm pretty pleased with my purchase.

Hey, its all good...  I was just shopping and ran across this site. I had been looking for a few weeks at tires. Decision's, decisions.... Decided the hell with it and pulled the trigger. Same here free shipping and no sales tax. Got my own cheap balancer. And will mount.
I see you went with a 170. I don't know if the 180 will clear but I will give it a shot. Am bit apprehensive about that. It's an unknown factor for me at this point.

A set of Conti Road Attack 2's for $300.  Best price I could find.

They are good looking tires. They are high on the list. Tire technology has improved a lot in the last 5 years. Let alone the last 25.... My existing tires were pretty dated. I researched tires for a month and finally gave up and just ordered the PR 3's. No particular reason other than a good price.  Just wore out of reading about tires :) About 100% of my riding is touring and under 100 mph. In the mix of events I am doing the GSXR rear wheel conversion and needed needed a new tire.
Front wheel next...... More $$$$$ :dash1:

A rear alone in Australia is just under $300!

I had to throw one away recently with only 6k on it after a puncture, ouch.

I love my Conti's and for the first time ever I replaced my tyres with the same ones, the Attack 2's.

The front is particularly interesting, it has a round profile like a slick and the FJ's love it. Transforms the bike in corners.

I research tyres extensively when they're about due and nothing appears to have come out recently that I thought was worth a go.

The Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact has been getting good feedback but not good enough to try yet.

300.00 Ouch.... I read about the operating and bits cost in other parts of the world and am astonished at the costs.. Rear tires here for 180 55 seem to run 100 - 220.00 depends on which tire. The newer and presumably better tires start at around 150.00 +-. Although riding for many years I am no tire expert or what works on the FJ.
All my other bikes were mostly in the 50 - 80 hp range and not sport riding oriented, BMW RT's etc.. A few years ago when I bought the FJ I had no thoughts or experience riding a sport touring bike. I went over to look at it on a bit of a "lark" , the price was cheap and I thought what the heck go check it out.  I sat on it and my first thought was "damn, this thing sure is comfortable and fit's me". Then I rode it and was impressed with the power. I figured any short comings I would deal with. During the last few years I have just ridden it shorter distances around the local area. I am planning on attending the WCR this spring so it became time to address tires and clean it up a little.
Yes the Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact along with the Conti's and PR'3's all get real good ratings. Lots of good tires out there. That's what makes it hard to decide. And the more you read the more you get confused...  I think if you buy an upper end tire then they are all pretty close to the same. The bike and tire's are a lot better than my riding capability.  Be safe down there and I am still waiting the your good weather.....

Got the 180 55 17 rear tire today and WOW. Now I can take my training wheels off !!! It is huge compared to the old stock tire. I will try to slip it on tomorrow. Then I can work on new dog bones.
