Hi, I am new to the road bike scene as I have been mostly off road for the last 20 years and now enjoy the comfort of a great 1989 FJ1200, I would like to replace the throttle cables and need to know if the joining box is really nedded or could I just use 2 long cables such as on off road bikes. Any ideas would be great. Thanks and it is a great site.. :greeting: I am in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia...

:hi: Welcome FJ 4655. Nice area Hervey Bay. Paddled tha Mary River to Maryborough once (3 years ago). Not an expert with throttle cables but unless you have raised the handlebars somewhat I`d stick to original. Available here: www.rpmracingca.com Randy will look after ya. +1 dougy,  but ive fitted xjr throttle cables and the matching throttle tube ect ,these are the full length cables, and work perfectly,, the bonus with standard fj items,  if one breaks you only have to purchase half a cable
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

The "joiner" box makes it a LOT easier to pull the carbs for service.... otherwise, it is not required. I'd keep it if it was my bike.

:i_am_so_happy:, thanks for the replys, I will have to have a look at the cables and possible just bite the bullet and buy the 4 new cables, given the age and klms I think it would be safer.  :bomb:

Thanks everybody, I have investigated these pesky cable and re routed them and lubed them so they no longer stick and work very well, so no need to buy new ones yet.
Next question--What are your thoughts on the antivibration bar ends, do they really work well and worth the investment, I am considering buying a set from RPM. :yahoo:
