Leathers question

So I made an attempt at buying my first set of leather riding gear, from LeatherUp. Go figure the prices were too good to be true, the elastic in the pants is already falling apart, I don't like the jacket, the armor sucks too (waaayyy too stiff, might as well have plate steel under my elbows). I'm going to take them to a place in town and have belt loops sewn onto the pants, and the zipper installed in the jacket so they hook together in the back.

But regardless I'm thinking about making another effort to buy good gear. I've still got my Joe Rocket textile jacket, and mesh tourmaster pants, but riding more and more I want leather. Most the riding I do is commuting to work and back in the nicer months (coming soon!), so I need to (well, want to) wear my blue jeans under whatever I get. Can't decide between a 1-piece and 2-piece setup though, what do you guys prefer? Feels strange looking for riding gear, for years I wore carhart double-knee jeans and a joe rocket jacket I got off craigslist for $50, and a $40 helmet. I've got an Exo1000 now.

Thanks!

Try Cycle Gear. I bought a set of leathers from them and am very happy with them. I got the pants on sale for 99 bucks and the jacket is on for 129 right now. I ordered them online and they were here in about a week, you have a store fairly close to you. Also bought a pair of boots and they fit well and are cool in the hot weather. They were the spirit model. Hope this helps you out a bit. Big R PS I ain't a small guy either. :sarcastic:

How are the zippers? I was going to buy a set of the Bilt leathers, but everything I read online is that the zippers are trash, and the LeatherUp ones were good. That's basically the same price as the stuff I bought from LU too.

I haven't had any trouble with the zippers as yet. I wore them all last summer and everything seems to be fine. I talked to a couple of other people that have bought these and one said he had some trouble but he took them back and was able to exchange them without any hassle. Cycle Gear seems to be pretty easy to deal with and their costumer service seems to be pretty good. I think there are some others on the forum that have bought there as well. Big R

if you are going to be throwing down the cash for quality protection and commuting then i highly recommend some motoport kevlar gear made to order.
