Hi I've just picked up a 1200 coil for my 85 1100. The coil has only 2 wires, a black and a grey coming out and the Cdi has a 4 pin plug therein lies my problem can anyone tell me which wire goes to which pin and if there is any further wires that need to be found to complete the system. ( I have the 6 pin plug sorted already )

Thanks for taking the time to read this

The coil doesn't wire directly to the CDI unit.
It wires into the corresponding plug in the loom, located under the tank.

Did you mean to say a PAIR of FJ1200 coils?  One coil for cylinders 1&4 and the second for cylinders 2&3. The second coil will have orange and black wires if I remember correctly. Pretty sure the 1200 coils should be a direct replacement for the 1100 coils...

Sorry the coils are still standard and in their original position the newly acquired part is the coil base pickup with which the old one used to plug straight into the Cdi with 3 wires going into a 4 pin plug the new pickup has only 2 wires as described earlier which are into a much smaller 2 pin plug. Will I need to wire in any extra wiring or just rewire these 2 wires into a 4 pin plug and either way which wire is required at which pin. ( the Cdi has also been replaced with one I am lead to believe was off a 1200)

The only pick up coil that will work on an 1100 is one from an early 1200, the one with the 2 pickups on the base plate like the 1100.
If you use a later single pick up coil on the 1100 you will need a CDI unit from the later 1988 onwards 1200.
I know, i've been down that route.

What i should have said is that the only CDI unit that will work with 1100 pick up coils and loom is an 1100 item.
I forgot that i tried to use an early 1200 CDI plugged into the 1100 loom and it does not work.
Basically, for a trouble free set up, use the pick ups and CDI that is designed for each model, and you can't go far wrong.
If you do try and wire up the way you are saying please let us know the results.
I'll post up a picture of the 36Y, ITX and 3CV CDI's in a while, so you'll know what you're dealing with.

1st picture is from the left an 1100 36Y CDI, centre a 1200 1TX, and right a 1200 3CV.
2nd picture shows the plug in points for the pick ups and loom. Notice the 1200 1TX has a pin missing on the top of the 6 pin plug.
Bottom picture is on the left a 1100 and 1TX 1200 ignition rotor, then the 1100 and ITX pick up coils on the base plate, then the 3CV 1200 pick up coil and base plate, and then the 3CV ignition rotor.
Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks I currently have the 3cv pickup rotor and Cdi I will try to configure it and I will keep you informed however if someone has made this system work previously any advice will be appreciated and could save me a lot of time. I can fabricate the wires to suit but a wiring diagram would be great.
