Today I removed my 17T front FJ sprocket and replaced it with a Honda VF 1000 18T sprocket. The VF 1000 gives me 2mm more offset. I ground down the outside boss with a hand grinder and trimmed it a little with a disk sander. Fits great. Socket was a JTF 339.18.

A tip on front sprocket removal picked up from another posting: Take your 36mm or 1 1/2 " socket and grind down the socket edge about 1/8 " or so. The large socket tapers off at the entrance point and its hard to get a good bite on the shallow drive sprocket nut. Take a look at the end of your socket and you will see what I am referring to. I used a disk sander and jammed the socket in to grind it down.. Socket works better now. FJ front sprocket Torque spec is 61 ft lb..

I am just nit picking.. The chain alignment looks good. But with an alignment tool it was off just a shade and I was thinking about going to a 18T front sprocket anyhow so it was either buy a new FJ unit or buy the Honda VF one.

If anyone needs more offset, a Honda 929 sprocket might work... Its pretty wide and after machinging / grinding down the outside boss I am not sure it will leave enough threads on the output shaft for the retaining nut to properly seat ? The Honda 929 socket has the same spline layout and will go on the shaft fine. The JT web site has good dimension information on there sprockets (pictures for us slow ones).
So now I have a  "Yamasukhon" oh, I forgot the Harley carb rubber accordion seal under the odometer reset knob.... So now it's a "Yamasukharhon", that just doesn't sound right...... :sarcastic: :sarcastic: :sarcastic:
