I'm down in Portland and there's another FJ'er in Kalama.

How about some more information.  Year, mods, etc.

Does everything else work?  All your lights, horns, etc?  Starter turn over, side stand switch not causing you issues, relay for the Stop/Run switch working ok?

I'm sure the collective can help get you back on the road.  :)

Fuse popped because of current overload... that's what they do!

So you have a fried something or a short someplace.  Sit down with a multimeter and the wiring diagram, and systematically check things out.

Start with the basics:

1) Check your starter switch is all the way out -sometimes they lack lubrication/ maintenance and stick part of the way in preventing the bike from starting and/or all kinds of electrical issues.

2) Check the side-stand switch.  These occasionally go and act like the starter switch.  They can be by-passed.

You will need to figure out WHY the fuse blew, this is almost certainly the real issue, but it never hurts to rule out known, easy to fix issues.

Starter sw. sticking causes the HL and panel lights to stay off, doesn't affect cranking ability.... The clutch or sidestand sw. will not let her crank.

If she's cranking, but not starting it's either a fuel or spark problem.....

ok so upon further review i found that the black wire going into the fuel pump was melted...so i guess i will pull that wire bundle and open it up and start tracing that wire....could a bad fuel pump cause a fuse to blow...could it be that relay....how can i check the relay or do i just need to replace it...

Travis398

it sounds possible that something is shorting in the pump can you dissconnect it? clear the short and check the relay with a test light?
