Just wanting to inro myself. A few weeks ago I bought a 1997 registered 3 XW with a very genuine 3700 miles on the clock. Siver over blue with green stripe, engine bars and a Givi wingrack otherwise factory fresh. Story goes that it scared the first 2 owners and then the next 2 used it very rarely and seemed to want to save it as a future classic! Well that's all over for this bike as I am going to tour on it. Got a few things to do before then and only even test ridden it so far. Used to use a mate FJ in the 90s though so know what I am getting onto!
Joined the FJ owners club - seems a good set up

Tyres - changed them as although they looked in good condition they might have been 16 years old, new Metzeler lasertecs already on
Brakes - about to order a full set of braided lines and will fit new brake pads at the same time
Oil and filter service too of course

Screen - anyone tried the MRA Vario screen. Mine is currently standard and at 6 ft 2 in I reckon I need higher

Welcome to the club and back into the Kookaloo zone.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

'86 Ambulance - Bent frame, cracked case, due for an overhaul

Welcome ! WOW that's a keeper ! It's not even broke in yet :). Good move on changing out the tyres. I have somewhat the same problem, good tread but old age...
Did they drain the fuel system while sitting in storage ? I am envious of your Givi wingrack. sounds like you are well on the way FJ "Kookaloo" moments,
George
Life isn't about having the best, but about making the best of what you have...

The bike has been run regularly lately as was in the hands of a Suzuki main dealer who whilst keeping it on the dealership books was intending to add it to his collection of classic bikes. Consequently it runs really just like new.
I guess the wingrack is no longer available by your comment but to make things worse for you this one is colour matched to the bike and I already have a set of large panniers and a top box I have been using on my GSX1400 (a bit of a youngster that as its 7 years old in 2 days time)
Sorry no idea what this "Kookaloo" thing is - sounds Aussie!

Welcome to the group.  Helpful bunch on here.  I'm a bit upset to be honest, I thought I had the lowest mileage example at only 4.5k miles!  You have trumped me!  4 owners since 1997 with only 3k on the clock is hard to believe, have you checked the service and MOT history?  mine only had one owner who was more of a collector than rider!.  Best you pull your finger out and start dragging that 3xw into the 21st century!

Good luck with everything and enjoy the bike
A life has been well lived, if you have planted trees under who's shade you do not expect to sit.

I'm told I'm cynical, pessimistic and generally miserable. I say that I'm realistic! The fact that reality sucks is not my fault!

Got every since MOT certificate since it was 3 years old and service record book too. The FJ was a great bike in the last century when I last rode one and with a few tweaks mine will be soon. Don't worry, I will soon be adding lots to those miles. I tend to do around 6000 bike miles a year on a good year and 4500 on a bad year like last year.
