Need a new windscreen.  [84-1100]  There is a Zero Gravity screen on there now, but the top part of the screen curves back so the end/top edge of the screen sits below the top of the rear view mirrors by 2-3 inches. [ 84 has the handlebar mounted mirrors]  The wind hits me in the upper neck and head is completely in the wind. On my return trip from wisconsin, I was encountering 30-50 mph crosswinds for 2 days and head was getting buffeted around WAY to much.  Those weather conditions were unusual, but an improvement in windscreen protection would be nice. Looks like the original screen comes up higher and ends higher up and would push the wind up at or above my helmet.  I can get the original, still available, for around $120. Any other good/better options out there.  I am 6"2".

And then I did  a search and found what I needed.  bikescreen.com [Gustafsson Plastics] and more.  I know, I know, do the search first. But anyone with experience having done this to chime in would be nice. there are always things to consider I never think of or know about.

Yep, I have experience with the +6 Gustafsson Touring windscreen on my '84. It did not help, in fact it made the helmet buffeting worse.
I'm 6'3" and the wind coming over the tall windscreen hit me right at the visor. Very noisey and tiring on the neck muscles.
I have gone back to the oem windscreen and I have found that it is calmer and quieter with my helmet in clean air.
If I were shorter, say around 5'8" or less the taller windscreen would work out differently.

Also, speaking of clean air, I have come to realize that those large mickey mouse ear oem mirrors caused a lot of tumbling air. I replaced them with some snazzy Italian  Rizoma mirrors which are lower in height and extend further outboard (to the side) than the oem mirrors. This was a unexpected benifit.

However also realize.....If you are riding in a cross wind, the the largest touring Gustafsson fairing is not gonna keep the buffeting away.

I agree with Pat - clean air is good.  On my '84 I chopped about 2 inches from the stock screen and changed mirrors to a fairing mounted style.  This is my son riding it and he's about 6'3" now.  Try removing your windscreen temporarily and have a ride to see the difference what clean air can make.

A side shot. (taken two years ago when he was only dreaming of riding 'Dads_FJ'.

I`m 6`8 and i`ve got the taller flip screen fitted to mine and I love it . I can ride with my visor open pretty easily now without my eyes streaming .

Just my 2 cents
Buy a car ? Why in the hell would I want to do THAT ???
