Hi all! My name is Pete, and I picked up a '92 FJ locally about two years ago. It's in pretty nice shape, (from ten feet), just having a few bodywork issues and light surface corrosion from po's. It's originally from the bay area, and must have been stored outside at some point.
I've always had a bike thing, and remember reading about these in college and thinking "maybe some day". Well, I found her for $1800 and she's a great match, I'm 6'3" and 275#, and I like the power. I'm mostly into older stuff, it's cheaper and you can do your own work.
So far I've gotten an MRA screen, Rentech bars, (from the UK, before Randy stocked them), and after a wait of about four months, a new Hepco-Becker rack and top case from Germany. I've also picked up some R1 blue-spots for the front end, (thanks to you guys & the mod section). She's a great bike to commute & ride locally on. I'd like to take some longer trips, but work sort of percludes that. (Unscheduleable) I haven't posted in the past, but now, through magic of i-phone, (all hail Apple!), I should be able to do so intermittently. I've got a photo or two, but my current level of technological ineptnitude percludes posting said images. Oh well. Glad to see you guys are so passionate about the bike and welcoming. (if I can only avoid being flammed by that ONE GUY), oh well. Cheers, safe riding to all.

G'Day there,
Welcome to the site.
Sounds like you're well on the way to sorting your machine.
Brakes then suspension(includes 17" tyres) is considered by most to be a good way to go.
6'2" and 275 lbs.
You might want to think about getting some stiffer fork springs.
See Randy RPM's stuff or here's another good place for parts.

Portland,eh?
I've been to Portland a time or two, nice city.
Our Mr Bean lives there.
You could look him up, he's pretty handy to know, especially when it comes to mods.

Hmm,that's on 20 year old suspension.

Freshen up the rear shock and give all your pivot points a clean and grease too.

Thanks everybody. Yeah, I've got a few mods to do yet, the 17" rims might be a bit, since I've got really fresh rubber on, (Pirelli Sport Demons). Re-greasing the back end is a good idea; what I'm thinking of doing next is rebuilding the front forks with stiffer springs and cartridge emulators. (I'm gonna have to talk to Randy for suggestions on rates.) My left fork seal is weeping. I've picked up the 10mm? allen key socket to take out the bottom plug, hopefully I don't bugger it up. Oh and btw, since Klavdy mentioned him, (thank you), who is Mr. Bean? (The local guy, not that teevee guy.)

Welcome Pete good to have you on board. Sounds like you will fit right it. Once you start the mods never stop, unless the money runs out.  :good2:
