A life has been well lived, if you have planted trees under who's shade you do not expect to sit.

£165.00 !!!   :wacko2: :wacko1: :dash2:

Just below the listing, is a Polish listing for just the seat cover around the 40 quid mark and just £6 to post it.

All you gotta do then, is waddle down to BnQ, buy a cheap heavy duty staple gun and bobs yer uncle and so on.

Saving about a hundred quid.

Here's the guy in poland (eBay) selling the cover for £46 all in......
http://www.eBay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-FJ-1200-Typ-3CV-3CW-3YA-1988-1999-SEAT-COVER-/130795775323?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item1e7409255b

Personally though, for the meantime (or is it just "mean"), I shall stick to my roll of black duct tape.

At least it's waterproof....unlike ALL of the recovered embroidered seats and covers on eBay.  (They use some vinyl, but the rest is a porous material.  Not good, and soaks up the wet).

I agree they look pretty smart, but for us here in the pissy wet UK, I can't see why I'd spend 165 quid, only to have it covered in a Tesco bag most of the time to keep the water out!

And with that, I shall away back under my duvet again, where it's safe, warm and THEY can't get me.

I bought my seat cover off this guy (Grizz210) and it`s Excellent quality  !!

If you speak to him personally he`ll do you a reshaped seat with colored piping ( like the one listed first above but with colour ) for £70 posted OUTSIDE of ebay and he can be well trusted !

His work is superb !

I bought a seat cover in a standard shape but with blue piping at front mid and back for £19 posted ! I can`t comment on waterproof-ness of it . it`s new and it`s VERY rare my bike gets wet.
Buy a car ? Why in the hell would I want to do THAT ???

Harumph! - your lucky.  My horse has to get ridden in ALL weathers.  Rain, sleet, snow, ice etc.

Y'see, I don't own a car licence.  Never have done and never will.  I've been biking all my life.  Unfortunately, that comes with side effects.  Dropped bikes, broken bones, arthritis, hypothermia....etc etc!

Anyhoo - I liked the idea of a seat cover to tidy the bike up - but after I read about the polish covers, (being a mix of material) I decided to just keep my old seat on.  Duct tape is only a couple of quid a roll, and I've not even used a full roll yet.  When done right, and cut to shape, It can look not a bad job.  I mean, I don't just lash it everywhere!!

But, my seat has only worn at the very corners where it touches the tank, and a small nick at the back.  So to spend about 60 quid for a new cover and staple gun to me, would be money used for other things. Personally, I don't think my bike is worth it, but would be great for all you guys who have lovely clean rides, polished metal, good paintwork and best of all - sunny days all the time.

You can buy a new vehicle in scotland and within a month, it starts to rust with the salt air from the sea (I live not even 50 yards from the sea).  Keeping alloy polished is a nightmare, and even if you clearcoat it after, the salt turns it to yellow with a month.

I think I have shares in Autosol with the amount of polish I use!  Looks good for the first 24 hours, but get up in the morning and its all white spots again!  :sorry:

Yeah I ride in all weathers too as I dont drive a car (why would I want to do that lol ) , and I suppose "rarely gets wet" isn`t , maybe as accurate as it sounds. , I keep a shammy and my Oxford stormex cover in my top box though and must admit i`m super anal about keeping her dry . If it rains , when I get to my destination it`s dried immediately and the cover goes on , my misses hates me for it but likes the lack of repair bills / new chains / etc  and the "always new" look of my bikes . Like you I go through a HUGE amount of turtle wax. I`ve only just acquired the FJ so been fairly lucky with the weather so far. It will get wet at some point and I did wash it today so threw a couple of rinse buckets over the seat and it didnt soak in so i`m assuming its going to be ok in the rain . Time will tell I guess . I can`t fault the look and the service from the guy thats for sure . With the cover being £19 quid it didnt break the bank (it didnt come from poland)

You can always rely on a True Scot's first reaction to be complaining at the price!!

To be honest I don't really care for the shape of the passenger seat but I do like the colour detail.  Duct tape is a bit rustic for my taste but if it works, then good luck to ya.  I agree about not knowing the quality of materials used! I don't relish the idea of a wet arse every time I go out!  Mind you it lives in the garage between rides and whilst I don't mind getting wet while I'm out, I won't deliberately go out if the weathers pants!  Not when I could sit in front of the log burner with a nice glass of 12yr old single malt (something we should thank Scotland for!

But of course! - As sure as a cat is a hairy beast, you can rely on us to carry on the traditions of times long ago.

Talking of wet arses on seats - I've also had a wet seat on a DRY day!!

But that may be down to my having original single pot calipers and the original rubber brake lines.

Oh hell yeah!! - many a time I've gone to brake in a hurry cos of a car pulling out and it's a near T-bone situation.

Trust me, that can cause a seat to be wet in no time at all!
