clarifying a clutch comment

G'day, 

Just looking for a little confirmation to something I've read but cannot remember where.

My clutch is having a few slipping issues in higher gears when getting into the meaty part of the torque range when under reasonable/hard acceleration. (not an issue in normal day to day riding)

I intend to pull the clutch out and measure plates and discs are in spec. If they are in-spec i believe you are able to run another standard "Spring Clutch 2 (yamaha part 1TX-16334-00-00)" to increase pressure on the clutch. I've had a look at the manual and all seems straight forward if this is the case.

Has anybody done this and with what results?.

The motor has not been used in over 5 years and has only been ran for approx 600 kilometers (2 oil and filter changes in this time). The clutch was dry when i first started the engine and required a few rev's and dropping it into gear with the rear brake on the free it initially but operates fine now. The first oil change had some nonmetallic flakes in it but nothing since. I'm guessing this may have been from the dry steel clutch plates.

Any opinions would be appreciated -

Yeah, that'll work.  Use 5JW-16334-00-00  instead, it's the same part but half the price.

Thanks heaps for the link - bucket loads of information, exactly what i wanted.

I have a spare engine with a clutch in it - hopefully if all in spec i will build up one good clutch with all the best bits including the extra spring.

I stacked a new clutch spring on top of my old one. No slipping whatsoever. Pretty hard to pull the clutch lever now, but I have big hands so it's not a show stopper. I've read about swapping to an FJR clutch handle assembly for a larger diameter (14mm) piston for easier pulling.

Smaller diameter, you mean.  Stock is 5/8", or about 15.8mm.
