Clutch Slave Cylinder Rebuild

I am in the process of rebuilding my clutch slave cylinder.  I just changed the clutch line from the old rubber hoses and metal line to one black stainless steel line.  I am also going with Dot 5 so if it ever leaks, there won't be any issues with paint.  So here is the question...when I took the slave cylinder apart, I noticed some pitting in the cylinder bore.  I was able to clean that up by using a dremel and a fine abrasive pad but I noticed that the piston was scored and slightly rough on one edge and the black finish was gone.  Will this cause any problems with leakage or will the new seals prevent this from occurring?   :unknown:Is this just normal wear or should I just change the whole unit?  The bike only has 21 000 miles so it shouldn't be worn out?
Thanks again for your expertise!

Dean, that's pretty severe pitting if you had to use a dremel. I've done mine twice now and each time just had to use very fine emery cloth. I have not had a leak with new seals installed. You may be ok, but I really think if you had to use a dremel, it will no longer seal......best of luck mate.

Hey there, Harvy.
I would not say it was severe pitting; I used the dremel as I thought that it would do a nicer, more uniform job.  It is the piston that I am a little concerned about.  I was just wondering if the finish is rubbed away if that is abnormal wear...

The black coating worn from the piston is normal. The pitting is normal.

The use is a dremel, sandpaper or anything else that can remove material is bad for the bore. As the material is removed the bore becomes larger and the seal will have less pressure to retain the fluid.

The coating one the piston is a protective coating to ward off corrosion, but does not effect the operation.

I only use scotch-brite pads by hand to clean the bore of corrosion and not to remove material.

That is my recommendation, no power tools and the bore needs to stay concentric.
