Hi, Well, yesterday I started rewiring the headlamp as I needed to have break from weekend tinkering with my carbs.
My version of the XJR has a relay & individual fuse for the headlamp which switches on after the engine is cranked. Some time ago now the bulb failed and I replaced it with a 90/130W globe which worked but only seemed a tad brighter than the standard 55/65W globe.
This is mostly due to voltage drop in the original wiring and switch loop. Quartz Halogen globes need to operate close too their design voltage to achieve the brilliance (and lumen output) in the blue/green part of the spectrum.
So, here is my upgrade plan: New fused supply to factory relay, 6mm wire to hi/low beam relay in headlamp, relocate ground wire, additional earth bond from battery to frame.

Laying out the new feed cable

Big difference in size between new and old lines

I manged to fit the 6mm wire in the original plug body with new crimps and soldered terminations.

That single black wire with white plug is the main earth for everything except the start motor.

Battery box (aux wire & fuse for battery charger)

Soldered splice for headlamp & charger fuses.

Taped & tied up

from fuse to relay its 600mm shorter as well!

The other end! headlamp switch mod next!

nuf 4 now, Craig
