Introduction time - i've been watching long enough

G'day

My name is Grant, I've been tearing through the forum for a while looking and reading as i rebuilt my "94" model FJ1200.

I'm quite impressed with the direction many of the bikes on this forum have gone - no hope of the old beasts becoming extinct in the foreseeable future - which is a good thing.

I'm not as adventurous as some - i'll be keeping my mods to a minimum at the moment.

My bike was written off back in 2007. My Dad purchased it as a spare for his "91" that he has owned since new. When i found out that he was offloading it at a garage sale i expressed my interest and the rest is history. Naturally after it sitting in the shed for a few years the Boss (better known as the cook) laid down the law - get it on the road or sell it. Not that hard a decision to make.

Just like everyone else on the forum i searched until i had more the enough parts (can't have to many spares - way to many obsolete parts as it is) to start putting it back together.  I've used an earlier model alloy swing arm as well as alloy bottom triple clamp - Yamaha must have been cost cutting towards the end of the model run when they went to a pressed steel swing arm and cast iron bottom triple clamp.

I've finally got it into one piece except my tank which is still at the painters - hopefully picking it up early next week.

My intention is to keep it visually pretty stock. I have a Fournales shock which i will put in when i give the forks a bit of an internal work over - no use having one end performing well and not the other. Like all projects - one job at a time - get it registered and sorted first. Brakes that work well - bouncy bits that work as a team - then maybe look at a modern wheel set - time will tell.

Looking forward to loading some images for you to all check out but i've got no idea how to at the moment - hopefully someone will give me some simple instructions. I do need help in this area.

Anyway - thats my attempt of an introduction.

Hopefully i'll put some faces to names at the Aussie Rally.

Stay upright and safe

Grant.

Welcome mate, glad to have you aboard Grant. Really good info here as you have already found and used to get your FJ into running condition. I guess you are one more FJ rider I need to meet when I get down under one of these days.

Welcome to the group. You will love the wealth of knowledge on this site and you will find an active group of riders in Aussie land. Good to see someone who has a 1994 model. We in the States missed out on the 94-96 models.

Shit! I told Baldy I wouldn`t change the embroidery on the Rally Shirts from "1984 to 1993" unless someone came with a model outside those years.
:shout: ARE ya listen`n Baldy - looks like the shirts will state 1984 ta 1994!!. (B`et he wants ta change it again!)

Really look`n forward to meeting ya at the Rally. - In fact, you won`t be the only one from the Gong.  (Don`t forget ta book a room this week - while there is plenty, they`re going quicker than I thought - and we got tha place exclusiveley till the end of this month - $50 refundable).
