the government has finally done away with registration labels, stickers, tax disc or any other name the expensive little items are known by, , no longer needed are label holders  :good2:, , time will tell if this is a good idea, or has it given the law another reason to pull us over for inspections , rego checks ect ,,  advice given at service tas ( transport department ) was keep the receipts as it had payment details , expire dates ect just in case the police don't happen to be working that day and they can't confirm your vehicle is valid for road use

yep, that's why I changed my number plate for a fancy new one, wanted something for my money , even though that was. an extra $16 , , was a reason they banned front plates, wonder how many ppl will need to get hurt or killed before they ban them again if the bring them back

The Rego labels/disks/stickers served no purpose.  By the time a cop pulls you over they know your history down to where your birthmarks are located from your license plate.

They claim they want front number plates so bikes are able to be photographed and fined by those funking speed cameras.  They don't care about your safety at all.  In reality, they could do away with all of these easily by requiring a transponder be fitted by the importer to every new bike sold and have a one year requirement for your bike to be fitted with such a device with rego renewal.  The same (microchip) device that dogs get would work.  Then they could read the ID info from a buried receptor in the Hwy or with a wand type device.

Maybe I should shut up and not tell them.

funny you mention that, , read a story in the now defunct street bike magazine at least 15 years ago saying that such devices could happen

They're in pretty common use in most livestock for ID and tracing purposes.  And transponders are used on bicycles, motorcycles, and cars in racing to both ID them and provide automatic sector times.  The technology is available, cheap, and proven in use.  Its only a matter of legislation for them to be installed in all registered road vehicles.

actually thought some places had them in taxi,s and trucks , buses ect

sorry to tell you guys but if you have an electronic tolling tag in your car or bike then you are already being monitored and speed checked, that how they can put the how many minutes to whatever is the next exit up on the highway billboards.

They say that they only store the last 4 digits of your tag but they have to read the whole number before its stored. They do it on freeways and tollways.

In NSW there are 54 or so point to point speed cameras that atm only book trucks but a mate of mine in the traffic authority says they are trialling it for all cars/bikes and will introduce it soon.

Their will be no need for front number plates as RFID chips and the like will eventually track you all over the state, no police involved you will just get a ticket in the post.

as for the rego sticker I am glad to see them go we loose ours next January, then let the fun begin as mister plod who can't read and write anyway starts stopping you .

Also, no tunnels, few bridges, and not much highway building recently.  The Midland Hwy is the only road that can (barely) be called a highway and its been without any significant upgrade in the 30 years I've been here.
So, with the Melbourne and Sydney tolls (supposedly) to repay the "public/private" partnership that has built road infrastructure, why would Tassie be tolled?  Maybe they should cut the fare and instead put a toll on the Ferry, call it a part of the national road network.  Might even allow Tassie to become a real part of the country. :-)

Arnie
This lack of highways and a road network (?) that most would describe as "secondary roads" makes Tassie a wonderful place to ride a bike.  You do have to be a bit cautious with the corner speed advisory signs, unlike most places you can't just double it and add 10 - its much closer to what you can get through the corner.  Maybe just add 1/2 to what's posted :-)  And you have to watch out for the logging trucks, but maybe not for much longer.

also a lot less police, traffic, and dickheads on backroads , bad highways keeps the tourists away , , so as long as we have a government vehicle fleet , even if the economy goes down, there will be fuel tanks to milk ,, and back to eating possum stew in no time

mmm possum stew, wrap the possum in ali foil and put it in the headers before you go for a long run then all you have to do is add it to the stew mix when you get home.

the way NSW is going we won't even be able to afford road kill possums  :bye2:
