is there anyway to completely block a thread so you no longer have to see it or even know it is being posted to?

No.  There's also, annoyingly, no way to ignore certain users.

If there's something really offensive or something, you could PM marsh and see if you could get it locked/deleted, but if it's only offensive to you, gluck with it.
