Quick ride with new member djfrankv

Frank took me up on my offer for an FJ ride. We both had FJ problems, after putting on UNI pods he could not get his bike to run properly so he dusted off his GTS1000 and joined me at the Hill Street cafe at the bottom of the Angelest Crest. I knew I was not in for a smooth day when I pulled on the choke knob to start up in the morning and knob came off in my hand. A scrap of welding wire and some tape and I now have a pull ring for the choke till I can find my stash of choke knob screws and tiny Allen wrench. At the cafe I could not get my bike started, it was already warm and should have fired right up. The engine turned over but only the occasional hint of ignition. Not wanting to fry my starter Frank and I let it sit while we had chat. Then it fires right up and I finish putting my helmet and gloves on and the idle stumbles then dies. Now it won't start again. My Power Ranger ride has let me down.... To shorten the story Frank gives me a ride back to my house and I bring my truck and battery charger back to the cafe. The bike has sat some more and the charge is another 10 minutes. It fires right up again and and I keep a hand on the throttle this time.

We have a good ride to Newcomb's ranch and find the place packed. Some tents set up and a suspension company is charging $40 to adjust your suspension while you wait.







Our classic bikes get some attention, Frank's GTS is quite rare and is noticed by a few. As busy as it was we chose a dingo's lunch (a piss and a good look around) and continued on to Wrightwood. Gas up in Wrightwood, get some sandwiches and a drink and back on the Crest for a place to pull over and eat. The ride back was full of spotting LEO's like it was a convention. Must have been the holiday weekend. Or maybe it was why we saw a tow truck with the cable over the side pulling something up that went over the side and down the hill. Other than that, no crashes were spotted on the Crest. Just before we get to the turn off for Big Tujunga I see a CHP cruser all light up behind us, Frank and I were pretty tame on our way back except for a few double yellow passes of cagers that drive slow and don't pull over. Once we make the turn the CHP unit continues down the Crest so we are free to go. A quick detour up Little Big Tujunga and Angeles  Forest hwy for some fast sweepers and Kookaloo speeds. Back to the Crest and another detour on Big Tujunga to end up in Sunland and eventually one of my favorite watering holes the Steel Pit for cold one. I think we covered a little over 200 miles. Not epic but much needed ride time. Next time Frank will have his killer 84' ready to go, maybe we can get another FJ to join and have a mini rally.

Hey Mark! This is so cool! I love this forum! Just wanted to say I had a great ride! We couldn't have asked for a better day! The mountains were amazing and I had a blast! Talk to you soon!
