Carb rebuild left out the low-speed jets

Okay, I had the carbs rebuilt by RPM in March/April and I attempted reinstallation in June, but the bike ran like crap.  After explaining the situation with my sidecar, I had it flatbedded to a local shop, who - after I got home - said they won't look at it because it had been modified.  Of course it's been modified, since the Japanese bike doesn't come off the line with a French sidecar attached!  And they knew about it before I took it there.  To make a long story short, I had it trailered back to the guy who had originally sold it to me about 50 miles away.  He just called to tell me there were no low-speed jets in any of the carborators.

Can anyone tell me why they would have been removed and not reinstalled?  The originals were still in the baggy of stuff that was returned with the carbs.  Unless there's a reason for it, my next call will be to RPM to see if he just forgot to install new ones with all the other new stuff.  If that's all it was, I'll be disappointed with the additional $300+ of expense to correct it.

Very frustrated and quickly running out of funds to cover additional work that may have been unnecessary.

I also really hope we can get the rig up and running again in time for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Ride For Kids I do each year with the same patient and her sister.

I dont think the bike would have run at all without any low speed jets in the carbs...... Randy knows his stuff and i am pretty sure he wouldnt have sent you carbs without all the jets installed.

I believe your current mechanic may be trying to get something over on you.

I have spoken to the mechanic and after speaking with him I believe I did leave out the pilot jets. He explained all of the other jet changes & mods I completed to the carbs and I believe him.

I cannot answer how I forgot to include them; the phone rang, someone walked in, something...But I put the bowls on without the pilots.

They are already in the mail to the mechanic, he will have them no later than Tuesday and the issue has been resolved.

The human element has got the best of me on this one.

Ok Randy it's that one mistake out of the way for the year. Great service admitting you made a mistake and then correcting it.

It wasn't 15 minutes after I posted, that Randy gave me a call.  Within another 15 minutes, he had provided an excellent resolution.  Assuming this works out and I have the rig back as soon as I expect, I will be astonished - not only with Randy's honesty (first time I've dealt with a vehicle repair error someone actually admitted to) but also his professionalism in timely handling the problem.   :good2:

Randy seemed a little annoyed with the fact that I posted, rather than calling him directly.  Certainly that was not meant as a cut on him.  I was quite serious in stating that I was unsure if the removal of the low-speed pilots was appropriate for a carb rebuild.  I didn't want to contact him if that wasn't the issue, and thus the reason why I wanted the wisdom of the list (WOTL) before progressing to the next step.

Everyone here is impressed with how you handled the situation, Randy. Not to worry.  You will probably get more orders now for being honest and resolving things quickly.
