i have a vance and hines 4-1 system. i just got it sandblasted and he baked it for me with hi-temp paint, but im thinking i want to wrap it and then coat the wrap ceramic wrap sealer paint.

what do you guys think?
i hear wrapping  the front header doesn't look too bad, and it keeps a lot of heat off the front of the engine and helps with exhaust scavenging.
should i wrap the header or no?

Er...well, don't know really.
I'm going by the fact that i've only ever seen two bikes with wrapped exhausts and both were Harleys. Never considered wrapping exhausts myself. Aren't there plenty of other mods to spend time and money on that will have greater effect?

Great way to retain moisture nice and tightly against the metal.  If you want all of the tiny fractional gains from keeping heat in the pipe and such, get it ceramic coated.  The V&H isn't known for being made well in the first place, so you can consider it a wear item if you want to wrap it.

I wouldn't do it.  I don't see OEM's doing it.  I don't see competitive racers doing it.  Don't see the point.

I wrapped a set of new shorty headers on my Jeep and after a few months the metal tubes scaled off.  The tubes degraded so bad you could crush them in your hand. The wrap still looked great though.

They help if you have a problem and can't put a heat sheild on. Great for a race vehicle.

FWIW, Jet Hot coating quoted about $200.00 for the "Extreme Stirling" coating for the whole FJ exhaust.

thanks for the tips  i also have heard v&h dont make the strongest pipes so i will take the info and run with it..

Yeah, V&H are shit for longevity.  That said, I run them and like them when they don't crack and break etc (I have been through a couple of sets - different break points every time).

I don't think I've ever seen an FJ with wrapped headers....ever.  If you do it please post pics.

Also, I would like to see some more detailed pics of your FJ if you don't mind.  Please post in the gallery if you have the time.  I have a thing for black FJs...
