Hello, I'm new here, from Ontario Canada and just purchased a 87 FJ1200, its got 45 clicks on it and give it an 9 out of 10.
The problem the bike is having is the head light will come on half the time, switch it to high bean light goes out, when the light is working and its been on for a min. or 2 turn the bike off, start it again and the headlight doesn't work, fuse is good , doesn't blow the fuse, I'm stumped, haven't taken the high low switch apart, could the problem be there?

Thanks
Jim

Welcome aboard Jim....... that would be a good place to start! You might also reach your hand up under the fairing to the socket attached to the back of the globe and give it a bit of a wriggle - might just be a poor connection on one or more of the pins.
If that's not fixing the problem, then you will have to go over the wiring loom and look for poor connections.
Your description suggests a ground wire problem to me.

Hi Jim,

Welcome in :-)

I had a similiar problem on my '92, low beam would work, high beam wouldn't. I gave the light a thump and it came on again - traced it to a dirty connector back of the bulb.  :good2:
Happy riding

Problem solved, found a post on here a few pages over, starter button sticking and the button not coming all the way out.
Shot some WD-40 in the switch, working like a champ.
Thanks guy's for your feed back so fast, I see I'm going to like this forum just as much as the XJ forum, I also own a 84 750RJ  Seca
