im new here :P and i got a question..please

here goes..
i just bought a 1984 fj1100 , with 92000 kms on it..i dont want to put too much money on it since right now its working fine,  but the bike was lowered at the rear suspension and i wanna put it back to its original height,, can someone tell me the stock part i need to get it back to original?

perhaps the shock has been changed for a shorter one, or the standard shock is set on the softest  sttings

the 84 FJ has a very complicated and not easily altered shock linkage.... post up a picture and let's see what your linkage looks like.

we can give you a solid answer then.


my guess would be either a shorter shock or altered shock spring was fitted to lower the bike.

They have those "lowering links" now too... It may be as easy as taking those off....  The FJ has one of the lowest seat heights of any sport touring bike in stock trim so if the bike was lowered it would have been for a very short rider or perhaps to drag race or for the "look".  Racerman has it right- gotta see the pics to know!

Try to take a picture of the bottom of the shock and the linkage that attaches it to the swingarm.....   get up under that bike!

The earlier models didn't use a linkage that used dogbones, I thought.  That changed for the 89 (88 in some markets) models.

It's possible that someone swapped in the entire arm, linkage, and shock assembly from a later model, though unlikely.
