I had a good friend of mine have heat stroke this morning. Lost consciousness for a couple minutes, etc. That was a frightening experience. He was rushed to the hospital, later released, only to have a relapse again an hour later.

Lesson learned:
Drink lots of water and don't over-do it. You probably hear all these safety briefings like me and all you hear is "blah, blah, blah..." But when your buddy goes down, it gets personal.

Take it easy out there as summer is here!

That happened to me last year at the NHMS at my buddy's camper. I guess it scared the shit out of them. :sorry: He said my eyes looked like a slot machine spinning. EMTs came after I came to and was wondering why I was on the ground with all these people around me.
It's real, it sucks, have to drink more water. I hate water, unless mixed with soda syrup or hops & barley  :yahoo:

When I lived in CO, the saying was simply "hydrate or die"

It really is that simple.

I've come close a few times to heat stroke, but never went totally over the edge.  Quite freaky to see the world slowly going black..

Water is a good thing, but for some odd reason I'm always thirsty no matter how much of it I drink.. If I drink nothing but water for about 10 days my lips will no longer be chapped.. as soon as I drink something other than water they are chapped again.. Makes me nuts..

Glad to see I'm not the only one having trouble in the heat.  Was working on the bike in the garage two days ago, and found that going from a crouch to a standing position made the world go kinda hazy and dark at the edges.... was definitely time to go in and have some water.

Don't always like water, but I make very weak iced tea that I can drink by the gallon in a hurry.  Not enough caffiene to make it unhealthy.

Having to work up in some super hot attics over the years i have found that water alone is not enough to ward off the effects of the heat.

i worked up in an attic a few years ago... about 135 degrees.... drank 3 gallons of water during the day (24lbs worth)

and was still 8lbs lighter that evening than when i hit the scales that morning.

take two of these heat relief tabs and a 16oz glass of water and in about 20-30 minutes i feel like a brand new man!

If i know i am going to be working in an attic i will preemptively take the tabs .  Works really good helping stop those muscle cramps at the end of the long hot 40 minute moto too!

Very cool Frank, thank you for that link. Electrolyte replacement is important....Especially potassium.

What I have found is to start your hydration early. Once you get behind the hydration curve you can't get caught up unless you stop your activity. Hard to do when you have 200 miles of hot riding left in the day.

Also, watch the color of your urine. If it's medium yellow or darker, immediately stop and hydrate.
Your kidneys will thank you.

get your flavor, water AND electrolytes all in one go!   :good2:

i highly recommend the fruit punch and orange flavors.... the lemonaid is weak unless you mix it really strong.
