If I am looking at my Yamaha service manual correctly..41 tooth rear sprocket and 17 tooth front.

Arnie

Stock for the early FJ's was 41 rear, later it changed to 40 and then 39.  Front sprocket was 17 for all years.
IF you're getting 110kph @ 3700 its already pretty long gearing.
If you're getting 110kph indicated @ 4000 its pretty close to stock.
If it varies between 3700 and 4000 rpm, you need to inspect your clutch.

You can put an 18 countershaft sprocket to lower it a more, but I don't think you'll find a rear of less than 38.

is your speedo off if your changing the sprockets?

SlowOldGuy

No, speedo mechanism is on the front wheel.

Doesn't mean it isn't off anyhow though.  But the gearing won't matter in that case.

You can make it read low in the first gears if you can keep the front in the air though, I suppose that's related to gearing.  :)

That's the reason i'm going back to stock just too damn wheelie happy.

Throttle control grasshopper, it's all about throttle control.  Learn to accurately micro-manage the throttle and you won't need to touch the gearing.  There's my input -that and about $1.58 will get you a coffee at Starbucks.
