Shock absorber compatability

Hi can anyone tell me if the shock with the built in adjuster will fit all models? cheers Woody.

No.
FJ's use 2 different types of shocks due to differences in the shock linkage.
'84-87's use a longer stroke shock with a lower eye mount.
In 1989 FJ's converted over to a dog bone style linkage which uses a shorter stroke shock with a lower clevis mount. I don't know about the '88's.

Woody, from memory there were 3 different shocks used throughout the 10 years of FJ1100/FJ1200 production.

The last change occurred with the '91 model

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.

Pat, in '91 they got rid of the chain adjustment mechanism..... so I think that makes 3.

Thanks Harvey,  I thought they dropped the chain adjusters on the '89's on..... Good to know.

Ahha.......well Pat, its got me wondering now. When I bought a '90 parts bike a few years back, it still had the chain operated adjuster - but it may not have been a '90?????

I thought the chain adjuster went the same year as the swing arm changed from aluminium to steel....... anyway - I still think its 3 different shocks..... :flag_of_truce:

Right on Rich,  I checked the micro and Harvey's correct... The chain adjusters are on the '89/90's....not on the '91+

Good catch Harvey, I didn't even think about the adjusters. I was just focused on the shock actuation.
