The more I think about it, the more I like the appearance of the FJ1200 belly pan as opposed to the FJ1100
(well actually, the more I think about it I very much like the overall appearance of the '86 FJ1200, it has a very nice look to it).

Having read earlier posts on the subject and studied some parts diagrammes, I've come to understand that a swap is not directly possible.

However, I'm still wondering if it is at all possible to order an aftermarket fiberglass fairing (from Beasley Composites or other), and then drill the holes to fit the mounting points on the lower frame of the 1100?

I'm not very experienced when it comes to working with fiberglass, but it would be very nice to get close to the look of the FJ1200 fairing.

Thanks a bunch,
Nat

I believe plastics are made out of ABS.

I believe plastics are made out of ABS.

The OEM plastics are made from ABS, but Beasley Composits and most other aftermarket suppliers make their parts from Glass Reinforced Plastic aka Fiberglass.

As for fitting the later model chin scoop, your biggest hassle will be making new mounts to fit.  These can probably just be made from thin steel or aluminum strap with fhanstock clips to provide the receiver thread.

Arnie

OK, thanks for the great advice.

So I understand it correctly that it is not a matter of drilling new holes and using the existing FJ1100 mounting points, but instead making new mounts to fit the holes on the FJ1200 fairing?

Sorry for being slow,
Nat

should only need new front mounts, and the rears are close enough to be used , as I've fitted a 1200 bellypan to my 84 1100
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Simple way is to get lower frame rails off a 86>90 remove your old one's and replace them with the later one's and from that point the chin is a bolt on.
