Last night John Ryan completed the Iron Butt Ultimate Coast to Coast ride from Prudhoe Bay, AL to Key West, FL on a 2005 FJR1300 in about 88 hours, beating the old record by about 8 hours.  And the bike had 135K miles on the clock when he started.  Amazingly, he averaged 70 mph on the Haul Road from Prudhoe Bay, which is gravel, at night, in the rain.  He has a 13 gallon tank on the bike.  They said he got about 8 hours of sleep over the course of the ride.

Makes the SaddleSore 1000 ride I did last month look like a cruise through the park.

I really respect those type of guys...cuz I could NEVER do it...I have not even the SLIGHTEST desire to ever want to do that EVEN if I could. I think they must all be a fair bit crazy...

Impressive endurance achievement? yes.  Sound like fun?  not in the slightest..  I can think of a million things i would rather do with a motorcycle and 9 days of play time.
