im sure this is on here but couldnt find much other than mount it and turn the engine over, but manual says to adjust the tensioner to a certain length, tensioner just wants to stay fully extended ,not ready to install it just yet, maybe tomorrow , im great at takingthings apart , this could turn nasty  (popcorn) (popcorn)

just wondering, before i put the cover back over the valves, have all timing marks lined up, even after ive spun the engine over by hand a few times and they still line up , if the camchain adjuster is set correct, i slipped all the chain slack over the sprockets on the intake side, and then installed the adjuster, heard it click about 4 times, but i never turned the intake cam backwards to set it up as you guys have said to do,completly forgot as i was too impressed that idmanaged to swap the head over and after a few tries got the timing right, know its good as i fitted the carbs up with whatever fuel was in them and pulled the choke on full, bumped the start button and she fired first try, didnt keep her running though, valve cover just sitting there and unsure on the chain but i think she lives, will check valve shims this week, dont want to mash these valves into the head  :dash2:

I'd think you are fine.  The adjuster extends from spring pressure and the ratchet keeps it from being able to retract - so it will always hold the most extend position it goes to.  Since you've already started and stopped the engine, it has already seen tension and slack, so it should be extended as far as needed.  As the chain wears and more slack develops it will extend out automatically - without the need for you to turn the crank in reverse.

thanks  mate, that explains everything just nicely ,  :good:
