Oil cooler adapter

Yes. I've used the search function but most things seems outdated. I'm looking into purchasing this oil cooler on ebay

it's a 13 row with an8 fittings.
Question is, how much hose do i buy? and what ID or OD do i need. As well as fittings to the motor itself.

I had read a post by Randy saying an6 fittings are the way to go. Can i just buy an6 fittings and they would bolt up to the an8 oil cooler?
And where do i get the special ones that go to the engine?

The price of that oil cooler makes the upgrade worthwhile imo.

I am not going to knock the CX racing oil cooler, but I will pass along, after purchasing two aluminum radiators from them for my sons Miata, I will never buy anything from them again. It is imported China/Taiwan junk. I can post the pictures of the problems next week when I get back to the shop.

I will tell you that I am working on a 24 row cooler system for the FJ. It will bolt on and come with the hoses and fitting for the oil pan as well. I do not recommend -8 fitting & lines due to pressure drop on the cooler side of the pump, which I have documented here on the site several times.

I am waiting on my machine shop to get me some prices on some of the parts which I should have in a few weeks. I showed Pat the set up when he dropped of his bike, and if I recall he liked what he saw. Hold on to that money for a little longer and I will supply a kit for you.

okay Randy, you're running a business, but a valuable business for us FJ owners so i'll wait for you. You definitely did me right with the carb and fork kit you sent me, and you are putting together a fork brace for us.  :good2:

It is amazing what will fit on the bike. This really works great!
I measured the height and width and thickness of the area and found the largest I could run on ebay. American made(?) earls fittings some Home depot aluminum angle and it was good to go.
I should have plumbed in the lines from the top to prevent the cooler from draining 

If it's not broken, fix it anyways

I have been a fan of Setrab oil coolers for over 30 years. They are durable. They work. We use them (need them) here in the desert on our Miatas, especially the guys running forced induction. I know the thick core of the Setrab requires a certain amount of air pressure to squeeze thru the rows allowing heat to shed. From what I've seen, Setrab oil coolers seem to work well at speeds about 30 mph and higher. That's where we see the oil temps start to fall, at speeds 30+mph....(in the Miata world)

However, that being said.... I think Randy is on to something.
The oil coolers he is proposing for our FJ's have been track tested in the Legend/Thunder car applications, and (Randy claims) has shown to be more efficient than the industry standard Setrab coolers. (I believe him)
When you see this cooler you will understand why. There is more surface area for heat transference. Where the Setrab coolers use a waffle between the oil rows, Randy's cooler has one piece design (hard to explain) with larger openings for air passage. I see Randy's cooler to be more efficient at low speeds, air will have a easier time passing thru the heat exchanger., Just what we need on our air cooled bikes going 10mph in stop and go traffic on a hot summer day..
Also the cooler, the one I saw, is more compact, a 24 row oil cooler the same size as a 10 or 12 row Setrab?  Kinda cool.
Yea, I think Randy is on to something here....

Over the decades, we know Setrab oil coolers are durable, they are beefy tostadas. Built like a brick shithouse...They work.
If Randy's coolers prove to be as durable as the Setrabs, with higher efficiencies, this will be a great help for our air cooled motors.
