I need guidance on what fits what.  Want to upgrade the rear shock with Ohlins or Penske but don't know what unit to look for. Dies someone have a list of upgrades I can work to?

Penske will fit, they are pricey but many members really like them. They seem like a good value even if costly. Unlike the FJ, not very costly but excellent value. Some other members have installed Ohlins as well and had praises for them. Hagon also has options for our old FJ's. Personally, I want to put a Penske on as soon as I can save up enough. But I need to upgrade the front end to 17" with emulators and some blue dots.

Excellent advice. Thanks!  Since Ohlins doesn't have a listing for the 1200 specifically ( at least I couldn't find it) what model/year bike should I be looking for that will directly fit the '90 FJ1200?  I have seen a lot of options mentioned in the various threads but haven't figured out what will work for my bike.

Not having one yet I am guessing that when you order one you will need to give them details. Make, Mod, year, riding style, typical weight of rider(s) + gear. I think they have 3 models of shock. Your basic with the fewest adjustments, a two clicker and the top model the three clicker, each offering more on the fly adjust-ability. Some have taken their bikes in and had the shock installed & adjusted while they waited. Perhaps other Penske owners will offer their opinion.

Got it.  That's what I'll do. Thanks!

Use the search function on this site for Penkse, you should find more than enough reading material, and some of it will be useful.

Ohlins made one for the '90, I've got one on mine.... scored it used from the Yahoo group. I'm pretty happy with it, works good. I haven't tried a Penske...
