Why the Scottoilers?

Is this a Brit thing or what?  Why bother with this contraption if all you have to do is spray your chain on the centerstand before every/other ride? Does the weather there require constant chain lubing? Do chains cost a LOT more than they do here (USA?)
Just curious. Every picture of most modified bike in the UK have these things fitted. 8)

I think it depends on the kind of riding you're doing.  A 250 mile day on my Ninja is pretty exceptional, so oiling the chain every now and then isn't a big deal.

However, a 1,000 mile day or a 3,000 mile trip on my FJ isn't all that uncommon.  I'm more interested in just riding on those trips than I am worrying about maintenance on the bike, so I've found the Scottoiler very useful.

I am actually going to be selling my Scottoiler with HCR after I get my Hawkoiler (an American product).

I've been running a chain oiler for a long time.  John Laurentian (Hawke oiler) inspired me, but mine has no pump inline.

The biggest reason to use a chain oiler is that it keeps your chain oiled. (duh)
No matter which unit you use, having it mounted and only a push button or lever turn away means that you actually use it.
Why?  Well, I've got over 50,000 kms (3,000miles) on my current DID ZVM chain and its still good.  YMMV :-)
