FJ1200 1TX :hi:....I will be installing some pod filters within the next week , will it be ok to run standard set up on the carbs using my standard exhaust . I remember years ago someone putting in bigger main jets on an old RD250 i had but it ran worse than ever with stock exhausts and pods on . Cant wait to junk the old air box and get some easy access around the carbs plus i will be able to route my inline fuel filter much better.
Any help appreciated.

Steve

I believe it will run too lean.

Randy @ RPM has all the jets you need:

Mm thats a long post , very interesting though . May have overlooked but cant see anything stating running stock exhaust and pod filters .
Maybe just a case of trying and see , definately pull the plugs to see whats what then work from there  (popcorn)

The jets are cheap and relatively quick to install. I went richer because I don't need my engine to run any hotter (leaner). About $30 and a couple hours of work might be worth it.

You can try it without the jets, just watch your temperature and your plugs as you said.

Thanks, remembering what happend on my old RD i think it ran quite well at high RPM but bogged down from low RPM from standstill ...guess ill be looking at similar issues untill i get the mixture right .

Hey Steve, mark my words, when it comes time to r/r your carbies for cleaning, (not if, but when) you will be glad you have UniPods installed
(vs. fighting with that oem airbox)

Take a look here: http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=4714.0

For street use, a simple washer shim to raise your needles could be all you need....

Unless you need some low speed enrichment (#40 pilot jets) and unless you do a lot of WFO riding (main jets)

Right, because you don't really want more power, and you want it to run lean and get weak on the top end when you're playing hard.

Go up a size or two on the mains for pod filters.

I can see my options building , sure i will try them all eventually . Junking the airbox to gain easy access to the carbs will be worth it as i can remember using many bad words when the airbox tubes would not pull over the carbs  :dash2:
Just waiting for the mail man to deliver the pods then i can get stuck into pulling the airbox off and either throwing it or use it as a planter  (popcorn)
