Lots of suggestions can be made, but I think you're the only one in SA on this list.  Local availability and prices are very different depending on where you are.  It would also help if you gave some price range that you think is cheap.  (whoops, you're 19.... $500 could be too much) :-)

Realize that the lower the buy price the more time (and probably money) you'll likely have to spend to get the bike right.

Well, I think thee old adage of pay now or pay later will apply for certain.  Paying later means you'll have to include working on it, but that's okay because you get to learn about it.

I'd go for the first cheap rat bike that I could find, in the range of a  200-400 4stroke or a 185-250 2stroke.  Depends a bit on where you can ride  it though.  A tiny bike for the woods is going to be a little far from appropriate in big sand dunes.  For a doitall sort of machine, I've always wondered abou the CRF230 or DRZ200 personally.

Holy crap theres another South African :yahoo: :good2:

Cheap to me would be anything under 15000 (depending of the cc of the motor), I dont really plan on riding it on Sand Dunes and I am quite far from the desert, wood riding would be perfect, enduro riding actually, with the ability to ride over rocks without killing the wheel and by rocks I mean big rocks

So, I did a few practise runs, nothing too serious, found out that the FJ handles quite decently well when you use a proper racing line. I leaned the bike over, lower than I ever did on my 125 but not low enough to scrape some pegs. The straights section of the track is still used by daily drivers on their way home so I couldnt really gun it down there. Although I wasnt driving at crazy speeds, I still had loads of fun, So i will keep up the practising
